"HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles" (hondasfordsvolvo)

I’ve been looking for a new set of power tools for some time now. I have a 10-15 year old Milwaukee set but my last charger died a few weeks ago, and they are all too big and heavy for my wife to use them if she needs to. I almost dropped 800 dollars on a bunch of Milwaukee Fuel stuff that was one a great sale. However the wife was more comfortable with a budget of 2-300 which is more sensible. This morning I had a Home Depot ad pop up on FB. I guess you could say they got me. Got this 6 peice Ryobi kit for 200 bucks. You really can’t beat that. Similar Makita, Milwaukee or Delwalt kits are 500 bucks. Yes they are better but as a home gamer who will use these tools a few times a year I can’t justify the cost.

I have a set of Ryobi tools, they’re pretty good. They were used pretty regularly by my brother before he upgraded and have me these a couple years ago, I use them plenty and they’re still going strong. Certainly not Milwaukee, but not a bad buy.

$200 for all of that is a KILLER deal. Nicely done.

Yeah including the two batteries and charger that’s 9 peices. So like $22. 22 for each peice.

I believe you’d have to commit a misdemeanor, at a minimum, to get a better deal.

Which one is considered the better one? Makitas? I have a similar Bosch set, and love it. Wonder if they’re the same mfgr

I’d put Makit up there with Milwaukee even better in some cases. But they also make a Bosch/Ryobi grade tool. I think it’s their white tools that are the DIY/hobby grade stuff while the heavy duty tools are the classic real or black.

Well if you are a casual user maybe, as someone who uses these kinds of things on shows, Ryobi always breaks. My friend got their electric weed whacker and it only lasted two months. I only use Makita these days, I just got the black compact 18v drill/impact set, love them. I have three generations of Makita tools that all still work fine, I just swapped them out to save space in my show tool Pelican case, I’ve been able to use smaller cases because of tool shrinkage.

MCM uses Ryobi, can’t be all that bad.
I’m a pretty big fan of the Milwaukee Fuel. We use them at work, and my only complaint is the angle grinder likes to overheat the batteries, so you end up swapping them around a bunch to let them cool down.

Yeah I figure best case these last the 3 year warranty and then I’ll get Milwaukee, or Makita

Nice! Tempted to buy this myself... Looks like 2x 4.0Ah batteries are $100. The 2 batteries that come with the kit are “compact batteries” - does that mean they’re half the amp-hours (or less)?
Edit - found it: they’re 1.5 Ah batteries.

Yeah I figure if I do like the tools, and have a battery problem I can buy the 6amp/hour batteries for 120 and still only spend 320.

Good plan. I’ve got a Hitachi lithium impact that’s great, but my older - also Hitachi - drill has nickel batteries that are well past their prime. Need to see how much it would cost me to get nickel replacements for it (may be worth just replacing).

That was the problem with keeping my old Milwaukee stuff going. Even just a new charger was 60 bucks used!
